PSAT Day Coming

Fri, 10/02/2015 - 12:56pm

On Wednesday, October 14, all tenth and eleventh grade students will be taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) during periods 1 through 3. Ninth graders who registered for the examination will also be tested. Please make sure your student arrives at school on time, well-rested and well-nourished.  Posters with students names listed alphabetically will be on display in the hallway outside of the cafeteria informing students where to report for testing. For the test date, students will report directly to the testing room for attendance.

  • All HCPSS high schools provide this critical opportunity for our students to begin to explore their post-secondary journey. The PSAT/NMSQT provides valuable feedback aligned with college and career readiness.
  • The Student Search Service™, as part of this PSAT administration, makes it easy for colleges and scholarship programs to find students and even to match students with scholarship dollars.  Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT may qualify for screening for the National Merit Scholarship Program, with 11th graders often meeting the entry requirements.
  • PSAT testing establishes a baseline for the new SAT, which many of our students will take in the spring of this school year. The PSAT/NMSQT will test the same skills and knowledge as the SAT so that students can set goals for individual progress towards success on the SAT.
  • Advanced Placement coursework becomes valuable as students seek to demonstrate increasing levels of successful rigorous coursework as evidenced on transcripts.  The PSAT scores can be used as indicators of AP potential and may help guide course selection for next year
  • Students and parents are encouraged to explore the College Board website for additional information and resources.
  • Students should bring their own calculators as the school will not be providing them to students. Please check page 32 in the Student Guide to review which calculators are permissible.
  • Parents and students can review the items listed under Test-Day Regulations on page 5 in the Student Guide which list items that are prohibited during the test.

We know that our RHHS students will do their best.
