FAFSA Workshop

Tue, 09/25/2018 - 11:52am

HCC’s financial aid office is very excited about their upcoming FAFSA workshop onsite at River Hill High School from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. HCC provides these FAFSA workshops onsite at HCC every year both for their students and for the public. Please note, this workshop is not just for those planning to attend Howard Community College. It is for all students preparing to enroll for any college during the 2019-2020 academic year. We hope that HCC coming onsite to River Hill is helpful for students and families to encourage early completion of the FAFSA and maximize the opportunity for students to apply early enough for financial aid to be considered not only for federal aid but, for state and institutional aid as well. We suggest the following steps to prepare for a successful event.

Completing the FAFSA takes 30 -45 minutes, typically. Appointments will be scheduled for up to 4 families every 15 minutes (i.e. 8:15, 8:30, 8:45, etc.) Please contact Dana St. George at 410-313-7400 to schedule appointments.

We ask that parents bring the following information with them:

  • The student and the parents FSA ID, if they already have one.
  • A copy of the student and/or the parents 2017 Tax Returns, if they have filed.
  • A copy of the student and/or the parents 2017 W2s
  • All 2017 untaxed income info. Untaxed information includes but is not limited to child support, housing, food, and other living allowances, veterans non-educational benefits, etc.

Two of HHC’s staff members (Raenel Bivens and Mirvat Said ) will arrive at River Hill by 8:00 am. While we recommend that both the student and a parent attend, we understand that parents and sometimes students are unavailable during the day. If only one can attend, HCC staff members will walk through the process with the attendee to ensure they can take the information back and complete the application process later, when they get home.
