Dear Parents and Guardians of River Hill Students,
As you know, the mental health and wellness of our students is a concern that our students, staff, and parent community have shared over the course of the past few years. As we have spent this year listening to, learning from, and leading with our students, we have heard their concerns about mental health and wellness over and over again, firsthand. It's Real.
In the next months, we will be presenting opportunities for our community to deepen the conversation, learn more about mental health and young adults, and discover more of the strategies and resources we can all use to help keep the young people in our community safe and well.
The first opportunity is for our parents and guardians. Kat Olbrich, the Maryland and Delaware Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will present for parents and guardians on Tuesday, May 17 from 6:30-8:00 pm to raise awareness about mental health and:
An overview of the presentation that students will receive during our assemblies
The importance of self-care
Emotional challenges during times of transition, such as the transition from High School
How to reach out for help for oneself, or for a friend
We spend time researching our communities and the schools we send our children to. We select our children’s pediatricians and dentists with care. We advise our children as they build academic and extracurricular portfolios for the next stages in their lives. Practicing positive self-care and knowing how to recognize and respond to mental health crises are valuable tools for everyone in our community who knows and loves our kids and can save lives.
Please consider attending this important event!
