Fall Re-Opening Plan

Tue, 08/11/2020 - 2:38pm

Please take time to review the HCPSS Fall Re-Opening Plan. School opens on September 8, 2020 in a virtual model.  The following is a quick summary.

High school students are enrolled in 4 class periods in the fall semester and 4 class periods in the spring semester. One class period in a semester could include two quarterly courses such as PE and Health . In the fall virtual instruction model, for each course, high school students will engage in four 45-minute synchronous lessons via Google Meet with content teachers and will engage in asynchronous learning activities and assignments using the Canvas learning management system.

Asynchronous assignments should take students 3-4 hours per course to complete. Within the weekly set of asynchronous assignments, teachers may designate one assignment each class period to be due by the start of the next class period (homework) to ensure continuity of learning and preparation for class discussion. This daily assignment should take no more than 30 minutes to complete and students will have the option to work on remaining asynchronous assignments flexibly throughout the week.

The following sample schedule is included in the HCPSS Fall Re-Opening Plan.  Note that synchronous learning occurs in Google Meets with the teacher; asynchronous learning involves students working independently to complete learning tasks and assignments.  Additional support is an opportunity to extend the virtual class meetings with time for students to receive extra help as needed.

A student schedule is posted on the HOME page in the Student Canvas Community for students to reference.

Virtual Secondary Schedule

Students may contact their school counselors to add additional elective course selections to their schedules.  We will let you know as soon as HCPSS makes course schedules available for students and families.

For each synchronous class/period, students are expected to engage in the lesson, respond to questions and participate in class activities.
