From February 22-23, 2018, River Hill DECA participated in their first State Career Development Conference (CDC). CDC consists of educational workshops, competitive events, and immersive programs. The theme this year for DECA is “Limitless,” which was emphasized throughout the conference by the keynote speaker and various workshops. As this was our first year attending, members arrived with little knowledge of what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised by the events at CDC. Each student had been preparing for this event months in advance, whether it was by taking practice exams, writing reports, or running through practice presentations at our membership meetings. Two of our very own Professional Division members, Ms. Hina Naseem and Ms. Carla Doyle, hosted workshops on “Personal Branding” and how to “Tune Up Your Presentation Skills.” After months of hard work and dedication, the River Hill chapter placed second in the conference overall, winning the “Second Place Outstanding Chapter Award.” Additionally, our chapter won the Membership Campaign award, and the Thrive level of the Chapter Campaigns.
