On Wednesday, October 11, all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) during periods 1 through 3. The test will begin promptly at 7:25 am so it is important that students arrive to school on time. Posters with students names listed alphabetically will be on display in the hallway outside of the cafeteria informing students where to report for testing. Parents of 11th graders, please emphasize the importance of this test to your student(s) as it is used for selection of the National Merit Scholarship Program. Additionally, the examination serves as a predictor of how students are anticipated to perform on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) which is used by many colleges and universities as part of their admission criteria. Provided are some suggestions to support students in performing their best on the test.
Students should:
1) 10th and 11th grade students should review the Official Student Guide to the PSAT / NMSQT booklet which was distributed to them through their English classes. Take the practice exams contained in the booklet. No booklets are provided to us for 9th graders.
2) Get lots of sleep the night before the test so that they will be well rested.
3) Eat something in the morning.
4) Bring their own calculators as the school will not be providing them to students. Please check page 26 (PSAT NMQST) in the Student Guide to review which calculators are permissible.
5) Review the items listed under Test-Day Regulations on pages 4-5 (PSAT NMQST) in the Student Guide which list items that are prohibited during the test.
6) Do your best!!
