GT Research Program - Parent Info Night

Thu, 11/05/2015 - 2:07pm

This week, 60 River Hill students were transformed into professional presenters. On Monday, the GT Research Program at River Hill High School conducted a half day conference to allow students to experience presenting high-level research to a large audience. By formally presenting to a variety of people, the students were able to enhance their public speaking skills and confidence as well as educate themselves on various research topics. Networking with other students enrolled in the program was another major aspect of the day. The Intern Mentorship students shared stories from their internships while the Independent Research students explained their current research discoveries. Through this conference, they also had the unique opportunity to learn information gathering techniques for college level databases. Howard Community College librarian, Gail Hollander, showed the students in her presentation the importance of scholarly articles and keyword searches and sent them home with a hand out on how to use the HCC Databases. Equipped with these skills, the RHHS GT students are ready to tackle their research with access to two college libraries, HCC & UMBC as they delve deeply into their favorite topic to create their paper and present their projects throughout the year.
