Spanish Honor Society

The Spanish Honor Society at River Hill HS is accepting applications. 

Applications for the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica are due no later than December 23, 2015.  Please submit the application to your Spanish teacher by the due date.  You may submit the application as soon as it is completed. Click here to view the application.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this organization is to recognize high school student achievement in Spanish and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic Studies.

General eligibility requirements to be met by all students:

  • Membership shall be based on scholarship with particular emphasis in Spanish.
  • Membership shall be restricted to those actively engaged in the study of Spanish in a secondary school.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in Spanish 3 or above.
  • Candidates must be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in high school.
  • Transfer students must have spent at least one year at River Hill High School before becoming eligible.
  • Selection of candidates shall take place at any time during the academic year, so long as all requirements have been met.
  • Applications are due by December 23, 2015 for the 2015-2016 year.
  • Scholastic eligibility requirements to be met by all students:
  • Candidates must have maintained a 3.67 (A-) average or higher in Spanish during high school.
  • Candidates must have maintained a 3.0 (B) average or higher in all other subjects during the semester of selection as well as a cumulative semester average of 3.0. The latter average is to be based on the grades of the 3 preceding semesters. Spanish courses may not be used when calculating this average.
  • Students must be enrolled in Spanish course during their junior and senior years in order to maintain membership.
  • Students must maintain a 3.67 (A-) average in Spanish to remain a member in good standing.
  • Students must be actively involved in the Spanish Club (once a month) and in community service related to the Spanish language or culture. This service must be approved by a sponsor in advance and be documented. Some examples of relevant volunteer projects are: Poetry Alive, It’s Linguistic, and RHHS International Day.
