Fall Sports Report

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 8:58am

The Fall Sports season is quickly coming to a close and as a community we want to celebrate some of the highlights of the season and communicate important upcoming games/matches that remain on the schedule.

In addition to cheering at the home Football games, the Cheerleading Squad has participated in two competitions this season.  The girls have learned a lot from each of these competitions and are making final adjustments to their routines in preparation for the County Championship which will take place 10-28-15 at Atholton.

Our Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams have demonstrated outstanding performance so far this season.  Both teams are currently ranked #4 in The Baltimore Sun.  MDMileSplit.com also posts the Boys as the #1 3A overall team and the Girls #3 overall. These two teams are positioned to defend their County Championship from a year ago which will take place at Centennial High School on 10-28-15.

The Field Hockey Team just completed their regular season this week.  They finished with a 9-5-1 record on the year.  They earned the top seed in the 2A East Section 2 playoff bracket.  The Hawks first playoff game will be held on 10-29-15 at 3:30 PM against Hammond High School.

Our Football Team began slowly at the start to the season, but the team coming on strong to win two out of their last three games.  We will host an important match at home for Friday night football (10-23-15) against Atholton High School and the outcome will have major playoff implications.  The Football Team will be celebrating its Seniors next week on 10-30-15.

Our Golf Team just finished their season on 10-12-15.  One of the season's highlights points to Derek Gold who won the Howard County Championship.  He is the first golfer from River Hill to ever win the Individual County Championship.

The Boys Soccer Team is currently ranked #8 in The Baltimore Sun and #2 in The Washington Post.  The team proudly posts an 11-2 record and have been honored as the Walt Whitman Tournament Champions in September.  Headline news for the program notes that Senior Forward Mike Heitzmann has been selected to play in the NSCA All American game this upcoming December in North Carolina.  Senior Night was held on 10-22-15 and regionals kick off next week.

The Girls Soccer Team is currently ranked #10 in The Baltimore Sun and The Washington Post.  They will play one remaining game on the fall schedule before the three-time State Champions look to defend their titles.  The Girls are 7-3-1 on the year  and are slated to be the #2 seed in the 2A North Section 2 bracket.

Lastly, our Volleyball team is currently ranked #3 in The Baltimore Sun with a remarkable 9-1 record.  At this point the team shares a piece of the county lead with three matches to go in the regular season. They will be celebrating Senior Night on 10-27-15 @ 5:30 pm vs. Glenelg High School.

Thanks to all our our coaches for fall sports, our dedicated Seniors, our hard-working players and our Athletics and Activities Manager Brandon Lauer for a spirited start to the school year!
