National Art Honor Society is an academic organization that promotes the recognition of students who excel in the visual arts. It encourages visual art students to contribute their talent to their school and community and to maintain a high level of achievement in their visual arts courses. NAHS recognizes and inspires students who have shown an outstanding ability and passion for the visual arts. As part of NAHS, students will participate in service projects that benefit the art, school and local community. The NAHS strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. Community service, GPA, Attendance and a passion for the Visual Arts are all part of the requirements in this Honor Society. Students must be in an art class and maintain at least a B average to be eligible for membership.

More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the national organization since its beginning in 1921. Since its inception at River Hill High School in 1996, the NHS has inducted hundreds of members into its chapter.
The RHHS Chapter of the National Honor Society is an organization promoting appropriate recognition for outstanding juniors and seniors. The purpose of the National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service to the school and community, to promote leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students at River Hill High School.
