Academic Integrity
River Hill High School students & staff are expected to uphold the highest standard of academic integrity & intellectual honesty in everything we do.
We are committed to:
- Modeling academic & intellectual honesty through our daily words & actions
- Upholding the highest standard of honor & integrity in ourselves & others
Violations of the Academic Integrity Policy Include:
- Copying another’s homework or classwork on assignments intended to be completed independently, or allowing another student to copy homework or classwork intended to be completed independently.
- Improper citations
- For example, omitting parenthetical or internal citations from assignments. Including a bibliography or works cited is not adequate.
- Plagiarism
- for example, copying multiple sentences from a text that is not one’s own and presenting it as if it were one’s own ideas.
- Using non-permitted aides on an assignment:
- for example, an electronic translator (i.e. Google Translate) in a class without the teacher’s permission, or a formula sheet or page of notes.
- Buying or copying work such as an essay, lab report, or project and submitting it as one’s own.
- Using or providing an assignment from a student who previously took the class.
- Providing specific information about the content of an assessment to a student who has not yet taken the assessment or obtaining specific information about the content of an assessment from a student who has already taken the exam/quiz.
- Misusing a cell phone or other device to cheat or to aid another in cheating.
- Any intentional violations not listed.
Academic Integrity Violations Processes and Consequences
Teacher will conference with the student, contact the parent, and email the administrator to document the concern. If there is evidence, observation or admission of a violation of this policy:
- Teacher will write a disciplinary referral.
- Administrator will investigate and make a determination
Consequences for violating this policy include:
- Student will not receive credit for the assignment/assessment.
- Violations may result in additional consequences assigned in accordance with the HCPSS Student Code of Conduct.
Note from River Hill NHS Honor Societies:
A Level II Violation may be cause for a student to be denied an invitation to join the River Hill Honor Societies. Integrity violations are considered to be a flagrant disregard of the character criteria of any member. Possible removal from membership or other consequences may result.
