Health and Lifetime Fitness Update from HCPSS

Registration for Fall 2019

Health and Lifetime Fitness semester courses are pre-selected as recommended courses for all rising 9th graders. HCPSS and MSDE expect students to complete Health and Lifetime Fitness in grade 9. It is not an assumption that a student will be able to access Health and Lifetime Fitness over the summer. Furthermore, student schedule requests cannot be altered until students are officially enrolled in summer school. (Please see the new process for summer school registration below.)

If a student would like to participate in an elective, in place of Health and Lifetime Fitness, a Course Placement Review form and an updated four year plan must be completed with the middle school counselor. In that case, Health and Lifetime Fitness are recommended for completion by the end of grade 10 and should be planned with that goal in mind within the four year plan. Options may include taking the course during grade 10, evening school or summer programming.

Summer Registration

Health and Lifetime Fitness registration for the Innovative Pathways Summer Program will be available March 1, 2019. This later date is due to two factors: the Maryland State Board of Education is considering graduation requirement changes and increased numbers of students requesting these courses in summer school.

Students will be permitted to register between March 1 and March 15 for these courses. At that time, students in rising grades 10-12 will be registered first. If additional spaces remain, there will be a random computer selection for rising 9th grade students. Summer school registration will no longer be a first come, first serve registration.
