2018-2019 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest

Essay Question: Write an essay describing a time when you spoke up for that which was right. Tell us about your experience and how it relates to the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

CONTEST RULES

  • Must be a Howard County middle school or high school student.
  • Essays must be typed, double spaced in the Microsoft Word format.
  • Include the student's name, address, telephone number, email address, name of school and grade.
  • Essays must be submitted individually.
  • Middle school essays must be 500 to 750 words.
  • High school essays must be 750 to 1000 words.

Essays will be judged on content that best depicts this year's theme, connection to Dr. King's work, spelling, grammar and sentence structure. Students with disabilities may submit entries using other media; posters, pictures, etc.

PRIZES

  • High School Students: 1st place-$250 2nd place-$200 3rd place-$150.
  • Middle School Students: 1st place-$200 2nd place-$150 3rd place-$100.
  • Prizes will be awarded at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebration on Sunday, January 20, 2019, 2:00 PM at Howard High School, 8700 Old Annapolis Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21043. Winners will be notified via email and phone.

DEADLINE
