Fall All Metro Teams Announced

After a tremendous fall sports season with FIVE teams winning County Championships, THREE teams winning Region Championships, TWO State Runner-Up finishes, and a Girls Soccer State Championship - the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun have announced their All-Metroploitan teams.  See the below honorees and the write ups that appeared in each publication:

Washington Post

COACH OF THE YEAR

Brian Song, River Hill

After an undefeated season in Howard County, Song guided a talented River Hill squad to its second straight Maryland 2A state championship. It was the eighth state title with the Hawks for the veteran coach, now in his 13th year at the helm of the program.

Megan Chun, MF, Sr., River Hill

A skillful midfielder who captained River Hill to back-to-back state championships, Chun finished the season with 13 goals and 17 assists. Will play at UMBC.

Victoria Tran, MF, Sr., River Hill

A captain and playmaker who controlled the midfield for River Hill’s state championship team. Will play at Navy.

 

Baltimore Sun

Cameron Coates, Boys Soccer

River Hill, defender, senior

» Two-year starter, center back brought consistently strong play and valuable leadership to help lead the No. 7 Hawks (15-2-2) to Class 2A state championship game appearance

» Mentor to young back line that featured a freshman and sophomore, he played with great pace and was strong tackler and one-on-one defender

» Still weighing college options, he was instrumental in Hawks allowing only 16 goals this season with six shutouts; also contributed two assists

Megan Chun, Girls Soccer

River Hill, midfielder, senior

» Four-year starter, two-year captain and repeat All-Metro pick finished with 13 goals and 16 assists as do-everything catalyst for Class 2A champion and No. 2 Hawks (17-2)

» Had a goal or assist in 15 games; came through in big moments with overtime goal in 3-2 region final win over Calvert and second goal in 3-0 state final win over Hereford

» Instrumental in three state titles in four years; UMBC commit finished career with 25 goals and 40 assists

Victoria Tran, Girls Soccer

River Hill, midfielder, senior

» Four-year starter, two-year captain and two-time All-Metro pick was steadying influence for the Class 2A state champion and No. 2 Hawks (17-2)

» Strong and smooth on the ball, finished with seven goals and eight assists; scored on penalty kick with under three minutes to play for 1-0 state semifinal win over Fallston

» A key to three state titles in four years; Navy commit finished career with 25 goals and 20 assists

Anish Nanjappa, Boys Cross Country

River Hill, sophomore

» Ran second at 2A South region meet (16:36.95) and fourth at Howard County championship meet (16:28.4)

» Helped Hawks take second at Howard County championship meet and 2A South meets, and third at 2A state meet

» Was Howard County’s top finisher with fifth-place finish at 2A state meet (16:27.31)

» Won two tri-meets for the Hawks this season

Faith Meininger, Girls Cross Country

River Hill, freshman

» If she continues to improve, she'll be one of the state's top distance runners

» Took second in the Howard County championship meet as the Hawks won the team title

» Finished second in the Class 2A South race; River Hill took that team championship

» Finished fifth in the state as the Hawks placed second overall behind three-time champion Hereford on the Bulls’ home course

Jasmine Tiamfook, Girls Cross Country

River Hill, senior

» Helped the Hawks to another big season with probably the best cross country campaign of her career

» Won the Howard County championship race in 19:01.0; she took that title last year, too

» Finished first in the Class 2A South race (19:26.0); also won last year’s regional crown, but River Hill was in Class 3A then

» Placed fourth in the Class 2A state meet as the Hawks won the county and regional titles while taking second in the state
