ATHLETIC UPDATE – OCTOBER 18TH

It is typical to hear the motto “It’s a great day to be a HAWK” throughout the halls of our school, but last week proved to truly be a great day to be a Hawk on the athletic fields.

10.18.17 marked the end of the regular season for the Cross Country team, Boys and Girls Soccer teams, and the Field Hockey team.

In what turned into a special mid-week day at River Hill, the Girls soccer team capped off an undefeated county season and clinched the county championship by knocking off Reservoir, 4-0. Four different players, Megan Chun, Carly Wetzel, Vic Tran, and Bridgette Wang, scored for the Hawks in the victory. Their first playoff game will be on Halloween, here at River Hill.

River Hill Boys soccer handled Reservoir, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon to clinch its first county title since 2014. Goals by Evan Doten (twice), Justin Harris, and Jed Dixon led the Hawks on the afternoon.  The Boys Soccer team finished the regular season 8-1-2 in county and 11-1-2 overall and edged Mt. Hebron by a full game in the league standings. Their first playoff game will also be on Halloween, here at River Hill

Cross Country hosted a very successful tri-meet vs. Mt. Hebron and Howard. Both the boys and the girls teams won the meet and a number of course records were broken. Sophomore Anish Nanjappa won the race in 16:32 for the 5k course and set a new sophomore record. Freshman Faith Meininger won the girls race in 19:00 to set a new freshman record. Her time was also the second fastest ever on the course and only 3 seconds away from a course record. The boys and girls are looking forward to a chance to repeat as team champions at the county championship meet on 10/25 at Centennial HS.

River Hill's Field Hockey team earned a thrilling 1-0 overtime victory over Glenelg on Wednesday to secure a piece of its first county championship since 2008. Quinn Kindbom scored with 6:55 left in the first OT period to lift the Hawks to the win. River Hill has earned the top seed and will start its playoff run on Monday, October 30th here at River Hill.

Football continues to be a strong undefeated team.  Be sure to come out and support their hard work as they face Glenelg on 10.27.17.

As we move into the playoffs, all of our home games will take place in the stadium. We have earned home-field vantage throughout the playoffs and need your support!  Come out and be loud and proud and show your Hawk PRIDE!
